Tenzin Tethong speaks on Apr 17

Tenzin led us through Tibetan Buddhist meditation that involved slowing down our breathing, then empathizing with someone we feel connected to, and finally, enlarging our circle of compassion to include the entire world.

At 8 pm, Tenzin then gave us a talk on the history of Tibet after which, we had a vigorous round of discussion, with people sharing deep emotions. Toward the end, we did a brainstorm on how we can move things forward, and there were some ideas. Most notably, it was suggested that we use a format where participants are asked to repeat what the previous speaker said, to that speaker's satisfaction, before making their own point. This will require actual listening.

We are working to organize Healing Tibet II in participation with the Chinese community.

The video of this talk is now available.

Comments:
I am surprised that no one has posted any comments on this wonderful group discussion on Tibet and China--- existing and complex relationships.
I enjoyed watching the first ever civil discussions between the two opposite groups in a long while.I give all credits to Sarvodaya and the speaker Mr.Tenzin Tethong, two who generated that level of calmness and peacefulness to the audiences like true teachers delivering and presenting the best of Eastern culture.
My hats off to the Chinese students for their well composed and level headed mature behavior that, I am not very used to seeing in many Chinese students I have come across at UW Madison,Wisconsin.(I'm not a student.I'm just local Tibetan-American resident here, who has had hot, screaming, and yelling arguments on several occasions of "Tenth Of Marches").But I have every reason to believe, that, there are more level headed Chinese people than bad tempered ones. So,I was right.
That was a good head start of discussion between Tibetans and Chinese.I hope I'll get to watch more of such communications between the two groups in the near future,as i have heard you, that, you would look into arranging of its kind in the future.
Therefore, this comment is more a reminder to you so you don't forget.
"Tibet's independence,India's security".
